Lady Reading Hospital:

This was the highest office ever held by a Jew in British India. He was accompanied by his wife, Lady Reading. She was fascinated by the view of the city of Qila Balahisar where they had stayed. He expressed his wish to see the city. In fulfillment of his wish he was given a horse. He visited the city. When he returned to the fort, the horse was afraid of falling the lady off the horse. This resulted in some injuries to Lady Reading. No immediate availability of medical help. She was taken to Agerton Hospital, where facilities were scarce.

Unable to cope with her injuries, she was transferred to the Royal Artillery Hospital, now called the Combined Military Hospital (or CMH) Peshawar, where she received appropriate treatment. The immense impact of this incident on them made the construction of a hospital inevitable. When Lord Reading retired in 1926, he came to Peshawar from Delhi and campaigned for a standard hospital to be built in place of Agerton Hospital. He donated 52,000 rupees (fifty-two thousand) for the construction.

This new hospital was later called Lady Reading Hospital. The hospital was later expanded into a 150-bed hospital for the district administration and, in 1930, a 200-bed hospital. Dr. Khan Bahadur Abdul Samad Khan became the hospital's first medical superintendent. a first hospital administrator in 1973. This hospital was affiliated to the Khyber Medical College in 1955 and received awards in medicine, surgery, ENT, ophthalmology, and T. According to a 2008 estimate, its outpatient department serves more than 2,500 patients per day and accidents in the department of a number of accidents and emergencies more than 1500 or 1800 per day.
